world clock-london

i was trying to post a real time clock from london. its html. do not know why it is not posting.

designing a vision.

i had a vision of a new design for a bed. don’t know why really , but the vision included specific angles and when i drew the proportions i saw in my head, then calculated sizes after, it occurred to me that the bed (which was covered with a top and curtain) was 11 feet high. I was reminded of michaelangelo’s pieta. In order to make the body of christ drape artisticly and look right in Mary’s arms, he’d wound up making mary a giantess, but you’d never know.

added some achived images to media file

I will be posting more images soon, I am learning how to attach them to Blogs. I am beginning to figure out how to use the text editing Icons. They are  a bit different from the ones i’ve used on other sites and programs, but now I think I know what to look for. In the mean time, I have transferred some archived images from my face book files.

If you havent heard from me in a while…

…its ok. I have been very busy at my Job teaching Children with Disabilities and also possibly doing some acting soon. I currently work at Dazzle School of the Visual and Performing Arts, PosAbilities Program. (www.dazzleschool.org). I am also a cast member of the Cosmic Greenies, info on the same site. Check it out! if you haven’t been to my facebook page(mdarby2) I have had a photo up of myself at work this summer.

Still Frustrated but hopefull

Still frustrated with the difficulties of adding artwork. I have pictures on my facebook I want to move here.  Any tips are apreciated.

Hopefull though because I just started a new position this week working as sort of an untitled artist in residence and teaching consultant at Dazzle Theater school in Rochester . More on that as it Goes. I also opened a linked in page which this page will be -er- linked in-to.

By the end of the week I will have attended 3 Art Shows, 2 of which are receptions/openings.  Two are for the pARTners group which Heritage Christian Services Run through their Pieters Family Life Group. One of those is featuring the Art of my Good Friend and fellow artist Getachew Taye. His work and mine have some interesting parallels. Both like to use the human face in a symbolist way to represent people in general, an both of us have a vibrant sense of pattern and color, and work from the concept of filling a given shape with pattern in unique ways.  The other show I went to was the master’s program seniors show at Nazerath College, where My Classmate Jennifer Bova had 3 of her pieces.  Verry nice material, though I am not sure if it would be fair t o describe it here as student work made under assignment sometimes hides portions of an artist’s style. (unless that artist is a commercial one.)

Adding Artwork

I promised to add artwork to this page and I am beginning to do so. In My Media File there are about a dozzen peices or so (give or take a few) as of this the date of this posting. All of the peices today are mine, as befits a portfolio. Most of these are cg, but I did include a caricature of a friend which began life as a scanned hand sketch, only it’s coloring is computerized.  In the past I hae used photoshop 5.5 and photoshop elements. These programs were preloaded on computers that have died. recently I have been using paint. net extensively, and sometimes the gimp.

I also included a photographic still life of a pot on my old kiln from when I worked at the salvation army. I appreciate the light and shade on unfired greenware, and on this simple form.  This piece was meant to advertise my class to clients of the rehab  program. I taught it weekly for 11 years, pouring and decorating mostly with Duncan products.

The small figurines in these shots are little creatures I call  “Brownies” in honor of the british fairie tradition of mischievous household spirits.  I made them as a personal in joke with a friend many years ago.  They are mostly Sculpy plastic oven baked clay,  with hair made from unraveled yarn, appropriately raggedy clothing of real fabric remnants, and jointing of  tan chenille wire.  Unfortunately, the epoxy glue that holds all the peices together, does not seem to have held some of the hands and feet on as much as one would have hoped, and they are somewhat delicate.

I will be adding more work soon.

Introduction

My name is Matthew C. Darby. Matthew means gift of God, or blessing,
The c is for Clark. Clark is British pronunciation  of “clerk”  which  means scribe  or secretary and is possibly descended from the word “cleric”- since one of the jobs clerics or monks were once known for is copying books by hand. This name came from my maternal grandfather, and for a long time I was uncomfortable with how it sounded. Then I thought of Clark Kent!

Darby means place of the deer..

I am from Rochester NY. My Birthday is 4-8-1968. Now you know a bit.  You can facebook or myspace me if you like, just look it up.

It is my hope to post a higher level of blog here than I have posted in those other places, and I may share some of my artwork as well. but for now, I need to leave the computer and return to life….
